What Is Laser Hair Removal?
Laser hair removal is defined by the FDA as “Permanent Hair Reduction”. This means each treatment permanently kills follicles that are in the active stage of hair growth.
Is More Than One Treatment Necessary? Why?
Yes, the number of sessions depends on the hair growth and client. Everyone has up to 200 follicles per square inch. Of those 200 follicles, the only ones destroyed during a laser hair treatment are the follicles with a hair growing in it. The remaining follicles may wake up at any time and begin to grow hair. When that happens, the laser treatment must be repeated to kill those follicles, which is why we recommend several sessions to achieve smooth skin.
What Causes the Hair to Grow?
While genetics plays a large role in determining hair characteristics, there are three things that stimulate hair growth. First, is summertime (for reasons we do not fully understand). Second, testosterone (an increase) and estrogen (a decrease) can both increase hair growth. Third is stress because the hormones that regulate estrogen and testosterone are secreted by the adrenal gland which also secretes cortisol and adrenalin in response to stress.
Does Laser Hair Removal Hurt?
It may be uncomfortable; the energy feels hot when it hits the skin, which then immediately begins to cool. After the treatment, there may be some redness or warmth that feels like a mild sunburn. In most cases, this resolves in a few hours or less.
How Much Does Laser Hair Removal Cost?
A laser hair removal treatment at Sanctuary Skincare + Wellness starts at only $60.00. The cost is comparable to the price of waxing, but laser hair removal kills the follicle while waxing does not.

When Is the Best Time to Consider Laser Hair Removal?
We recommend starting laser hair treatments during the cooler weather, such as fall or winter. We can do laser hair removal any time of the year, but because achieving smooth skin is a process, it is best to start your treatments earlier. Then, say come summer, your skin will be ready for summertime and you won’t have to worry about frequently shaving during beach season.
